‘Jai Shri Ram’ — Slightly Religious, Certainly Political!

The two letters that is on every Indian’s tongue today is ‘Ra’ and ‘Ma’. Simple two letters — probably as simple as Rama himself was.

There were many questions that came to mind as a child reading Ramayana. Why would he listen to a ‘dhobi’ to abandon his wife! Why would he leave his empire for 14 years just because of his Father’s promise to his Stepmother? Why does he always keep that smile on his face (referring to the lead actor on TV who played the role of Ram). To me, some of the aspects of his life are irreconcilable even today. But one thing that has always stuck with me after distilling all his stories is his tranquility.

I write this post with the same tranquil feeling to omit out what can be considered as a ‘majoritarian aggression’.

Similar to Racism in the US, we have ‘Religionism’ in our country. But the terms and conditions here are slightly different. Hindu is expected to prove himself to be ‘Secular’ and a Muslim is expected to prove himself to be ‘Patriotic’. For all you know, they might already be secular and patriotic, but we need to prove it at every turn in the road.

While many Hindus would really be experiencing a lot of joy and happiness over the Ram Mandir Bhoomi Poojan today, there will be a lurking feeling (like what I am experiencing today) that if we say ‘Jai Shri Ram’ on a social media platform, will we branded as “Insensitive” or more importantly ‘Bhakths’ :).

I am not a very religious person, so my feeling is not a religious one. To me it is more of a profound sense of closure. A feeling of a Hindu’s victory in a court in a Hindu majoritarian country! Secularism at its best.

The Supreme Court judgement needs to be commended for its equitable judgement. The BJP Government, both at the centre and in UP, needs a big pat on its back for its steadfast development. And last but certainly not the least, its our Muslim brothers who need to be thanked for handling the post-verdict situation in the most matured way possible.

All is well that begins well. History is on its way to course correct itself. Ayodhya is going to be an epicentre of religious tourism for Indians.

Shri Moola Ramo Vijayathe! 🙏🙏🙏
